Merchant Navy Veteran's Badge In June 2006 the government recognized the role of merchant seafarers in assisting HM Armed Forces in military operations with the introduction of the UK Merchant Seafarers Veteran’s Badge. The badge is available to all Merchant Navy seafarers and fishermen who served in a vessel at a time when it was operated in support of military operations by UK Armed Forces at any time prior to 31 December 1994. These were issued through the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency, which now forms part of Veterans UK.

The Merchant Navy Medal In 2013 the Queen approved the creation of the original Merchant Navy Medal, as part of the UK honours system, and in 2015 Her Majesty signed the Royal Warrant for the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service. The Merchant Navy Medal is awarded to individuals for exemplary service and devotion to duty, rewarding those who have set an outstanding example to others.
