golf trophies
Sapele Golf Club is the first golf club to have been established in Nigeria and was formed in 1901. The club has two trophies with an Elder Dempster connection, and the twelve hole course at Sapele is the venue of the longest established golf tournament in Nigeria.
The Elder Dempster Trophy
The club's oldest trophy is the Elder Dempster Trophy, which was presented in 1913.

The hallmarks show that this silver trophy
was made by Walker and Hall in Sheffield, in either 1912 or 1913.
It is not known if the rendition of Sapele as Sapelo was intentional.
The Obuasi Cup
The Obuasi Cup is believed to have been presented in 1961, and is named after the Elder Dempster cadet ship. The Cup was competed for by those competitors for the Elder Dempster Trophy who had been knocked out in the first and second rounds.
